 Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you are looking to sell your art or other personal property, we can provide you with a complimentary auction estimate for possible consignment.

  • Fair Market Value is defined as the price at which the property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts.

Replacement Value is defined as the price in terms of cash or other precisely revealed terms that would be required to replace a property with another of similar age, origin, appearance, provenance, and condition, within a reasonable length of time in an appropriate and relevant market.

  • First you need to determine what you want to do with the object. Do you want to keep it and have it insured? Do you want to include it in your own Estate planning documents? Do you want to liquidate it and realize its current value? These are questions that need to be answered before the best use is decided. All appraisals need an intended use, and an intended user.

  • First and foremost, you should always buy what you love. Establishing a budget and learning about what you like are also good first steps. Not all art appreciates, so if you are looking to enjoy a work of art while it serves as an investable asset, working with a qualified and educated advisor can help you achieve your goals of diversifying your overall asset portfolio.
